Last season's Victoria Derby winner FOX DAN (8) led and just held on in his heat on Tuesday but that was his first hitout for more than five months so it is sure to have improved him. Races well second-up so with even luck from the back row he can add to his terrific winning strike rate. Stablemate CAPTAIN PERFECT (9) caught the eye when he came from this row and finished strongly to get within a head of FOX DAN on Tuesday. that followed a fresh win at Melton so he is clearly back in good order and owns a strong third-up record with two wins and a placing from three attempts. Could turn the tables. MY ULTIMATE JIMMY NZ (4) took his record at this circuit to nine from 13 when winning his heat from this barrier on Tuesday. He is the only one of the top fancies drawn on the front row and that could prove a big advantage. JILLIBY NITRO (10) must be respected off some good form including a Terang Cup win two back while FORTY LOVE (6) stuck on well to place in his heat after working.
