GAULTIER (10) is rock-hard fit now and in good touch, not beaten far last time after missing by a head here at the start prior. Has gone well at both attempts on the rain-affected track, so no reason he won't handle it here. Maloney taking over is also a good push. ASTERN EFFORT (9) rises in grade after a Doomben Mdn win, but he did plenty wrong and still won with authority, so the upside keeps him firmly in the mix. YES DONALD YES (4) had trouble getting clear at the Sunny Coast and had been beaten only half a length at the Gold Coast beforehand. Drawn ugly but gets the key booking of Thompson. DUOMO (2) might be one to take a step forward third up. Sound latest.

Returns from a lengthy spell after ending last campaign with a sixth at Kilcoy, where he was close enough on the turn but did not quicken. He did win over 1800m at Sunshine Coast earlier in that campaign and has trialled at Doomben a few weeks ago, which gives him some readiness. Thin 1300m record and likely better for the run, so not recommending.
