Thompson's booking is a big push for his chances, and he'll likely be looking to find the front again to run them along. MAKAMAE (5) closed off well on heavy ground in a BM65 at the Sunny Coast and is fitter than most, though she must convert that honest recent form into a win at this trip. LORD PROTECTOR (7) was no match for an impressive winner last time at the Gold Coast but he still chased soundly for second, and his two runs prior were right up to scratch. She had led and held second to Gemtiki at Muswellbrook the run prior, so the pattern is reliable, and she has already won at this distance.
