Siding with CALIFORNIA GRASS (5) after a strong Grafton third over 2200m, where she was slow away yet still finished within just over a length of the winner. She gets meaningful weight relief, handles wet ground, and her record around this distance gives her a more seasoned staying profile than several key rivals. Gets a good chance to break a long run of outs. BACKHANDER (2) brings winning form from Dubbo and has been very consistent this prep, with Ben Thompson an important booking. Expect him to roll forward on the mare and run them along. AMELIORATION (1) is an obvious danger, coming off wins at this track in CL1 & 2 company, and her wet-track record is sound. Sticky draw and big weight makes things tough though. LORD PROTECTOR (7) backs up quickly from a BM62 second at Gold Coast and was solid in BM70 company two back, so the grade relief keeps him firmly in the mix despite the margin last start.

Was beaten five and a half lengths into third behind Miss Dynamo at this track last start after jumping awkwardly and failing to sustain the pressure. The market gave him a chance there, which makes the margin disappointing. He was also safely held two back when tenth behind Divine Justice. Some minor excuses, but he has to find a much stronger staying effort.
